Email Terms Every Marketer Needs to Know

Marketers love jargon. And…we kind of have to. Marketing gets really specific when it comes to promotions, campaigns, and funnels. We need to know how many active subscribers we have on a list, what a subscriber’s value is, and the difference between an open rate and a unique open rate. The specificity of this jargon helps our teams understand exactly what’s going on under the hood of our marketing strategies. And it helps us get those conversions. Here are the email terms every marketer needs to know so they can skyrocket their active subscribers, give back to their most valuable subscribers, understand how many times their emails are really being opened, and so much more. A/B Split Test ( noun ) – Testing variables in your email against each other to see which performs better (for example, 2 subject lines, 2 preview texts, 2 call to actions)  Active Subscriber (noun) – An email subscriber who opens emails from a sender ALT Tags ( noun ) – text that describes an image t...

10 questions with... Sedge Beswick, founder and managing director of Seen Connects

To showcase the personalities of the people behind the media and marketing sector, The Drum speaks to individuals who are bringing something a little different to the industry and talks to them about what insights and life experience they can offer the rest of us. This week's  10 Questions  are put to Sedge Beswick , founder and managing director of influencer marketing agency, Seen Connects. What was your first ever job? The first job I ever had was at 16, working as an experiential-promo-girl. I dressed up as an anime character at a Monster Truck event, got free converse out of it and was given McDonalds for lunch. It was glorious – you could argue it’s the best job I’ve ever had! In terms of my first industry job, I worked as a social media co-ordinator at Three UK (after coming second in a Facebook competition they ran!) Which industry buzzword annoys you most? Honestly, it’s hard to choose just one – I hate jargon, our tone of voice deck at Connects explicitly bans it...

Meet The Millennials: How Marketers Can Effectively Connect With The New B2B Buyer

In 2019, Brian Fanzo’s B2BMX keynote on Millennials was so popular that this year, the B2B Marketing Exchange brought him back for an encore. In his 2020 presentation, “Meet the Millennials: How B2B Brands Are Bridging Generational Divides for Teams and Buyers,” the Founder of iSocialFanz shared new insights on the importance of the Millennial generation — both as B2B buyers and as part of the marketing team. Some 82% of B2B buying committees now include at least one Millennial, according to Fanzo. To connect with this generation, marketers must understand that whether they are customers or employees, Millennials crave the same things: freedom, flexibility, authenticity and convenience. However, “there’s a disconnect between what we believe we’re doing in marketing and culture building and what’s actually happening,” Fanzo said. For example, he noted, 84% of vendors say they aim to be honest about when their product might not be the best fit; however, just 36% of Millennial...

That’s A Wrap On #B2BMX! Re-Live The Fun With Favorite Quotes & Tidbits From The Event

The entire Demand Gen Report team and I are still on a high from the epic show that was the B2B Marketing Exchange. (I’m currently writing this blog post from the airport as I wait to board my red-eye back to New Jersey.) It’s crazy to think that it’s all over. All the hard work we put into planning the event for a year and putting together a jam-packed agenda to ensure our 1,200+ attendees had a chance to learn, network and party in Scottsdale, Ariz. for three days really paid off. It was our biggest and best event to date! I wanted to take this blog post to highlight special events and some of my favorite quotes from our incredible speakers throughout the three days. But first… Whether you were a speaker, sponsor, attendee or simply following along on Twitter, THANK YOU for helping us make #B2BMX the massive success that it was. We couldn’t have done it without you. If you’re looking to relive the fun, check out the coverage Demand Gen Report has published so far: #B2...
