The Features of Google My Business That Rank… And Those That Don’t

Google My Business is crucial for local SEO . It’s important to know which customisation options are going to help you rank and which aren’t. Within this blog, you will discover the four Google My Business fields that directly affect how you rank. Not only will you be sure where to focus your attention but also where to avoid spending too much time on. GMB Ranking Fields The Business Name Surprisingly, the business name plays a part in impacting your overall ranking, perhaps more of one then it should. Those businesses with keyword-rich names will see a bigger advantage. Unfortunately, if this doesn’t apply to your business then there isn’t a lot to be done as changing your name is highly unrealistic. This is a good opportunity to look at what your competitors are doing, are they adding descriptive words into their business name? This is against Google’s guidelines, so not a method I would recommend following. However, if you spot any competitors breaking the rules then the Goo...

Instagram Celebrates Turning 10 with New Features

Instagram is 10 years old! The popular social media platform has been an ever-present icon in our lives and they’ve decided to celebrate this milestone with a few new features. We’ll look at the latest updates, including a certain Instagram icon easter egg, and look back at how Instagram has changed over the years. The good, the bad, and the food pics. What’s New? Stories Maps Instagram Stories are the little time-sensitive posts that appear at the top of your feed. These photos and videos disappear after a while similar to Snapchat. You can also save your Stories to your profile if you’ve got a particularly funny video of your mate dancing to ABBA. This is nothing new. What has surprised people is the introduction of Stories Maps. Stories Maps gives you a private look at where you’ve posted Stories over the past three years. It’s a great way to walk down memory lane and take a look at your most popular places for Stories (far too many at the pub). Furthermore, you can also see...

The do’s and don’ts of web design.

Map out the user journey Do create a sitemap The whole purpose of your website is to navigate the user to your service or product. Before you design a website you need to understand how you can effectively achieve this. Designing a sitemap of your website is vital and understanding how to get the user from point A to point B is what will separate a good website from a bad one. Don’t create clutter When designing a website you want it to be as easy-to-use as possible. This can be achieved by making things simple. When it comes to the top-level navigation links – limiting these to as few as possible would be beneficial to the user journey. The ideal number of links to have in the navigation would be about 7 links (yes, the lucky number 7). It is understandable that this may be difficult, as you don’t want to make is hard for the user to find critical information. This is where a strong sitemap comes into play, ensuring all critical pages are easily accessible, such as your about...

You can choose the size, external and internal finishes and Smartpod will build it so that it is bespoke to you. As they would say “you design it.. we build it” What they wanted When the team at Smartpod approached Fifteen, they were essentially looking for us to freshen up their website and make them more conversional. They also wanted to include more pages on their website to discuss their offering in better way, which will evidentially drive more traffic to their website. What we did The top menu bar On this section, the initial navigation bar had white text and a transparent background. This made it very hard to read against the header images on each page. After scrolling down, the navigation bar became solid black with white text. This was much more affective and clearer to read. Additionally on the scroll there was also a “call now to spe...

Google Challenge Microsoft Office with Workspace

Google is taking it to Microsoft Office with its newest integrated office system. Google Workspace is a big rebrand and redesign and all its office apps into an integrated service. Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Meet, and Calendar are all packed with new features with Javier Soltero, the VP of Google Workspace claiming; “This is the end of the ‘office’ as we know it.” This could mean Microsoft’s domination, it could mean the rise of remote work. Only time will tell. Reinventing the Wheel Google hasn’t blazed any trails with Workspace. Brands have all started leaning towards integration to improve user experience. Microsoft tried it with its Fluid framework in Office. We’ve even seen it on social media platforms with the announcement that Facebook and Instagram are merging their messaging services . Google is simply joining the bandwagon with their latest offering. New Features So what can we expect from this brand new Workspace? We’ll see over time as Google rollout features over the coming...

‘Facebook Shops’ Arrives in the UK

A few months ago we wrote about Facebook’s new e-commerce feature Facebook Shops. This platform helps businesses maintain their sales during the epidemic. The initial launch did, however, only cover businesses in North America, so aside from a “coming soon” section on the likes of Shopify, not much changed in the UK. But now the Facebook Shop feature is available to a selection of countries in Europe which includes the UK. While it’s not the smoothest set-up journey yet, it won’t be long until you can have a fully functional Facebook/Instagram Shop that offers more than the current shopping experience on the platforms. Over the past few months, most professionals and perhaps users may have noticed a number of changes to Facebook. Looks wise, there has been a quite significant makeover on desktop and a number of bugs in the backend are highly likely to be due to a number of other changes that could be related to this rollout. Facebook Shops New Layouts One of the main features is...

Facebook introduces Business Suite

After a string of new updates in 2020, Facebook has now introduced Facebook Business Suite. This update is set to be “a Faster and Easier Way to Manage Your Business on Facebook and Instagram”. According to the tech giant, Facebook Business Suite was built with small business owners in mind and larger businesses set to gain access in the future. In the release statement, they explained: “It is available for small businesses globally starting today and will expand to larger businesses next year.” The main purpose of the new update seems to be to smooth out the joint management of Instagram and Facebook. This makes it so that businesses can easily monitor messages and comments from both in the same place. This is a feature that they rolled out earlier, but everything seems smoother through the new app. You can also post and schedule to both accounts at the same time now. Again, something possible before, but made simpler now. Another tidy element of the new ‘all-in-one’ package is...
