With Social Media Addiction, AI Algorithms, and Disinformation, the Real Social Dilemma is Ours to Solve: Where Do We Start?

Cristian Dina, Pexels How do we live in a world of constant distraction without giving up these digital tools that monopolize our attention, but provide value at the same time? Is it an all-or-nothing game? These are questions more people are asking as a result of the overwhelming success of the Netflix documentary The #SocialDilemma , which looks at the consequences of driving user engagement through so-called “bubble filter” algorithms, that increase utilization by showing us more of what we’re already watching, insulating us from different points of view and contributing to today’s state of hyper-partisan political polarity. As I share with my good friend and Los Angeles-based  digital marketing consultant Eric Schwartzman, the good news is that it’s possible to balance a life of purpose while also taking advantage of social media and other transformative digital technologies. If you have a moment, please listen to our conversation here … We unpacked a lot during this c...

Building Trust in Digital Business

It now seems like a lifetime ago. Shortly before the onset of COVID-19 and my joining Salesforce as the Global Innovation Evangelist, I flew to London to participate in an expert panel on software defined networking (SDN) and the future of digital transformation. While digital transformation itself has been disrupted in the time since, SDN, like many enabling and mission-critical technologies are more important now than ever. I recently stumbled across unpublished material that I wanted to share with you here. Insights from the insiders Join our expert panel as they explore the relationships between data, trust, talent and innovation. They’ll be considering questions that include: what emerging trends are disrupting the business landscape? How is data and personalisation being used to ‘wow’ customers? What does it take to be a disruptor? And what practices are empowering employees and affecting company culture? Click the play button to hear their insights. Here are some of the ...

Not Every Voice Deserves an Audience; But You’re not Just Another Voice

My friend Damian Corbet just released a new book, “ Social CEO, The: How Social Media Can Make You A Stronger Leader .” As he was developing the manuscript, he reached out to ask if I’d write the foreword. After reading his work, the answer was, “absolutely!” I asked if I could share the foreword with you here…. Not Every Voice Deserves an Audience; But You’re not Just Another Voice If you’re reading this I’m going to make a series of assumptions in your favor. You either get it or you’re seeking to get it. Whichever way, you’re on the right path. Being a social CEO takes more than mastering social networks and building a community on social media. It means you believe so much in what we as a community stand for, and where we need to go together, that your dreams, aspirations and voice become ours. Let’s forget everything we know about social media for a moment. The world really doesn’t need another conversation about social networks. There’s always going to be another Facebo...

The Ultimate Disruption: The COVID-19 pandemic led to a seismic shift in consumer behavior

The first issue of CORE Magazine published by Epsilon features new research by Brian Solis on disruption, the Novel Economy and new consumerism. The Ultimate Disruption As the virus swept the globe, brands changed how they inter- acted with customers due to social distancing and stay-at- home orders. Consumer perspectives about making purchases also shifted with fluctuations in the stock market, skyrocket- ing unemployment and supply chain issues. As many people lost their jobs and those still earning a paycheck worried about future layoffs, impulse purchasing became infrequent. Messages that resonated with consumers a few weeks prior suddenly fell flat and even seemed insensitive. Even as physical businesses open up, the influence of social distancing is likely to stay with consumers longer term. Many of these new behaviors may turn into long-term habits instead of short-term solutions executed in crisis mode. “You need to re-create the customer journey for these times, and the...
